Most accidents are the result of human error. An error you have made or an error by the person who hits you. That is why we have insurance. It helps put right the resulting damage caused by an accident whether it be property, or personal (ACC).

As much as we try to avoid accidents by driving safely, we occasionally make mistakes. Mistakes resulting from being distracted, speeding, or by doing something you shouldn’t, like using your mobile phone, or by attending to the squabbles that come from little passengers in the back seats in peak hour traffic.

If you are unfortunate and have an accident, what should you do?

What to do in the event of an Accident:

  • 1 See to yourself first. Make the scene as safe as possible. Be aware of passing traffic.
  • 2 Do what you can for anyone injured.
  • 3 Ring 111 ask for police and ambulance for those injured.
  • 4 Get the number plate of the other car(s) involved and the driver’s name.
  • 5 If possible, get contact details of any witnesses.
  • 6 Have your car towed to and repaired by Gateway Collision Te Rapa.
  • 7 If your car is damaged and needs to be towed, ring Hamilton City Towing and Salvage 07-856 5233 and have it towed to Gateway Collision.
  • 8 Contact your Insurance company. Explain what has happened.
  • 9 If your car is driveable contact us (in person or by phone).
  • 10 We will assess the damage and make a time with you to bring it in for repairs and when to collect it.
  • 11 Let us do the rest and return it repaired and guaranteed, washed, and groomed.
